Overview of the VME Bus

The VME bus dates to the early 1980s. It was designed as a flexible interconnection between multiple master and slave devices using a variety of address and data precisions, and has become a popular standard bus used in a variety of products. In Silicon Graphics systems, the VME bus is treated as an I/O device, not as the main system bus.
